Set on the shore of a deep, sheltered bay ringed by pine-clad hills, the village and its calm waters are a favourite of both yachters and travellers seeking peace. The old stone castle ruins on the hill guarding the bay entrance add a historic frame to the village.

Though its name is not tied to big resorts, Selimiye is precious for exactly that simplicity: the jetties stretching along the shore, modest eateries serving fresh fish and seafood, the quay where fishermen mend nets in the morning, and the lights on the water at dusk. The area is also associated with the ancient Carian settlement of “Hydas.” Together with nearby points such as Bozburun, Orhaniye (Kızkumu), Bayır and Turgut Waterfall, Selimiye is an ideal base of discovery for those who want to escape the crowds and see the serene face of the Aegean.
