A cool waterfall tumbling step by step from the rock in Köyceğiz’s green — with a trout break on pergolas built over the water.

Near the village of Toparlar north of Köyceğiz, the Toparlar Waterfall — formed as water from the mountain tumbles step by step down a rocky slope — is one of the region’s most easily reached cooling spots. The pool it falls into and the dense greenery around it noticeably lower the temperature in summer heat; the sound of water and the damp cool lift city fatigue within minutes.

The waterfall’s best-loved feature is the wooden pergolas built over the stream beside it: stretching your feet into the running water while eating trout raised in spring water is the region’s classic ritual. Access is easy; you can drive almost to the foot of the falls and reach the front on a short walk — ideal for families with children and those who don’t want a long hike. The flow varies by season, at its most magnificent in spring and after rains. It combines easily into one day with Lake Köyceğiz, the Sultaniye hot springs and the Yuvarlakçay.
