In the Karacasu district of Aydın, Aphrodisias is an ancient city named after — and dedicated to — Aphrodite, the goddess of love and beauty. Inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2017, it is one of the best-preserved settlements of the ancient world.

Aphrodisias owes its true fame to its celebrated school of sculpture, fed by the marble quarries right beside it; the "Aphrodisias marble" statues produced here were exported across the entire Roman Empire in antiquity. The Tetrapylon, the city's monumental gateway linking its four directions, greets visitors with its restored grandeur. Its ancient stadium, seating around 30,000, is among the best-preserved to survive to our day. The sculptures displayed in the site's museum are world-renowned.
