The Library of Celsus
The first building that comes to mind at the mention of Ephesus is the Library of Celsus, with its magnificent two-storey façade. Built in the 2nd century AD as both a funerary monument and a library, it held close to 12,000 parchment scrolls in its day.
The Great Theatre
Carved into the hillside and seating some 25,000 people, the Great Theatre is one of the largest theatres of the ancient world. According to Christian tradition, Saint Paul addressed the people here.
